3S. Steelers legend LC Greenwood advances toward Pro Football Hall of Fame

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Steelers legend LC Greenwood has advanced among the candidates for the 2026 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Seniors category. Greenwood is among 34 former players to make the cut and advance.

Greenwood spent all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Steelers. He was a key player in those elite Steel Curtain defenses of the 1970s and was part of all four of those Super Bowl championship teams. Greenwood was named an All-Pro twice and finished his career with 73.5 sacks. Greenwood is one of the only members of those All-Time great defenses who isn’t already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The current list of 34 is based on a vote of the top 25, including all those players who tied for 25th. The next phase for the voters is to vote again and pare that group down to just nine semifinalists. That list should be announced in a month. From there, those nine will be discussed by the committee and from there, just three will make the cut.
