3S. Just hours after their monumental win over the Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs have officially signed a fan-favorite, 1,000-yard running back — sending shockwaves through the entire league.

Fresh off a season-saving comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs wasted no time strengthening their backfield. On Sunday evening, the team officially signed former Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce to their practice squad, adding a physical, high-energy playmaker to an offense searching for consistency in the ground game.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported the move, noting that Pierce joined the Chiefs just three days after being waived by Houston ahead of their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The acquisition gives Kansas City a veteran option with upside — a proven runner who once electrified the league with his bruising style.

Pierce, a fourth-round pick in 2022, burst onto the scene with 939 rushing yards and 1,104 yards from scrimmage as a rookie, instantly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young backs in the AFC. But after losing the starting job to Devin Singletary in 2023, he struggled to regain traction in a crowded Texans backfield. By 2024 and 2025, Joe Mixon, Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks had taken over the majority of touches, leaving Pierce’s role diminished despite his early promise.

For his career, Pierce has totaled 1,674 rushing yards and eight touchdowns across four seasons, numbers that speak to both his talent and his untapped potential. And with the Chiefs’ rushing attack ranking near the bottom of the league — Kareem Hunt currently leads the team with only 457 yards — Kansas City sees Pierce as a low-risk, high-reward addition.

Pierce expressed both gratitude and determination after signing with the Chiefs, offering a message that instantly resonated with fans in Kansas City.

“I’ve been waiting for a real chance to prove myself again. Joining the Chiefs is an opportunity I’m not taking lightly. This is a championship locker room, and I’m ready to earn every carry, every snap, every inch. Whatever this team asks of me, I’m all in,” Pierce said.

The Chiefs are expected to elevate Pierce quickly if he impresses in practice, especially with the offense searching for balance as they push toward the postseason. His bruising downhill style could provide a spark to a rushing attack that has struggled to find identity this year.

Just hours after their dramatic win over the Colts, Kansas City made another decisive move — one that could pay dividends down the stretch. And for Dameon Pierce, it may be the fresh start he’s been waiting for.
