RM Andy Reid Says Exactly What Needed to Be Said About OC Matt Nagy After Win Over Colts

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has been under a microscope in recent weeks. Their loss to the Denver Broncos — where they managed only 19 points — intensified concerns, and the criticism hasn’t eased. Against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, the offense again had moments of inconsistency. But unlike the performance versus Denver, this time the Chiefs’ offense came through twice late in the game, preventing another defeat from being added to their record.
In the Denver matchup, Kansas City had the ball with four minutes remaining and a chance to take control, yet they failed to capitalize. Against the Colts, however, they executed when it mattered most — first to tie the game, then again to seal the 23-20 victory. The defense certainly deserves recognition, but the offense delivered in the clutch, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy earned his share of credit.
Andy Reid Commends OC Matt Nagy for His Game Plan
“Offensively, we had a few penalties in some key situations that we need to clean up,” head coach Andy Reid said following the win. “The positive side was that the guys kept battling, kept pushing, and eventually settled in and eliminated some of those mistakes. They did a heck of a job. Nags (Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy) put together a phenomenal plan.
“Both coordinators — Steve Spagnuolo on defense and Matt Nagy on offense — were outstanding with their play-calling. Nags was really dialed in today… he was on fire.”
For perhaps the first time in weeks, the Chiefs leaned heavily on their running game — and it worked. Kareem Hunt handled a big workload and will surely feel the effects, but the team’s 148 rushing yards far exceeded their season average of 113. More importantly, the runs came at meaningful moments when the game was still within reach.
When it was time to air it out, Nagy dialed up deeper passing concepts that finally connected. And when those weren’t available, he created opportunities for Rashee Rice to get the ball in open space, allowing him to make plays after the catch. The offense looked sharp on the opening drives — aside from red-zone miscues — and again on the final two possessions of the game. Now the question is whether they can carry that momentum into their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
