bv. Steelers Unexpectedly Release Two Veteran Defensive Players Immediately After the Loss to the Bears

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced multiple roster transactions today, adding defensive lineman Anthony Goodlow and wide receiver Cornell Powell to the practice squad.

Goodlow entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams following the 2024 NFL Draft. He later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, spending the past two seasons on their practice squad and earning elevations to the Active/Inactive roster for three games in 2025.

Goodlow played his final collegiate season at Oklahoma State, appearing in 14 games and recording 42 total tackles — including 18 solo stops — along with seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Before transferring, he began his college career at Tulsa, where he appeared in 48 games with 22 starts.

Powell was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons on Kansas City’s practice squad and appeared in three games during the 2022 season.

He continued his career with stints on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad in 2024 and with the Houston Texans during the 2025 offseason.

Most recently, Powell played for the DC Defenders in the United Football League, where he led the UFL with seven receiving touchdowns in 2025. He totaled 29 catches for 418 yards in just nine games, ranking eighth in the league in receiving yards.

Powell played college football at Clemson, finishing his career with 93 receptions for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns across 54 appearances.

In corresponding moves, the Steelers released defensive back Daequan Hardy and linebacker Mark Robinson from the practice squad.
