RM Andy Reid Provides Update on Patrick Mahomes and Two Other Injuries Following Chiefs’ Loss to Chargers

In the wake of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, injuries have become the main point of focus. The defeat not only dropped the Chiefs’ record to 6-8 but also officially ended their hopes of making the playoffs, following a series of results around the league.

The spotlight is now on quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who seemed to injure his left knee after a play late in the game, just following the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter. Mahomes limped off the field and needed assistance as he made his way to the locker room.

Postgame, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared that Mahomes would undergo an MRI either that evening or the next day. Reid also offered brief updates on the statuses of tackle Jaylon Moore and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton.

“As for the injuries,” Reid said, “Patrick hurt his left knee. We’ll get him in for an MRI either tonight or tomorrow. Jaylon Moore also had a left knee injury, and Thornton was hit in the head. He’s in the concussion protocol, and we’ll monitor his situation.”

Moore had briefly returned to the game after his initial knee injury on the opening drive but was later forced to leave once again. Thornton, meanwhile, suffered a brutal hit from Chargers safety Tony Jefferson and entered the concussion protocol.

When asked for further details on Mahomes’ injury, Reid was cautious, expressing uncertainty about the severity of the situation.

“I don’t know yet, but it didn’t look great,” Reid said. “You all saw it too. We’ll just have to wait and see how it develops.”

Jefferson was ejected for the hit on Thornton, which led to questions about the league’s handling of the incident.

“The league took care of it,” Reid commented. “It was just one of those kinds of hits. There were a few others like it, and they addressed it.”

The game, played in frigid temperatures, saw several other players leave and return to the field due to injury. Linebacker Nick Bolton, defensive tackle Chris Jones, cornerback Jaylen Watson, and wide receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy were all shaken up during the physical contest.

Jones was seen receiving treatment on the sideline for a hamstring issue, while Worthy briefly entered the concussion protocol in the first half but was cleared to return shortly afterward.

Despite the physical toll of the game, Reid was quick to praise his team’s effort, though he noted that mistakes, rather than injuries, ultimately determined the outcome.

“It was a physical game, no doubt about it,” Reid said. “I’m proud of the way the guys fought. There was no lack of effort. But ultimately, it came down to execution. We made too many mistakes that cost us.”
