RM From Pain to Strength: The Incredible Battle of Mila Fuller Against Childhood Cancer

Fundraiser by Vanessa Fuller : Join Mila's Journey to Beat Cancer

Mila Fuller is a naturally shy girl, but once she feels comfortable around someone, her vibrant and creative personality shines through. She’s incredibly smart and intuitive, with a heart full of imagination.

It all began on New Year’s Eve 2024 when Mila started experiencing stomach pain. At first, her parents thought she might have caught the stomach flu, which was going around. But as the hours passed, her pain intensified, and she didn’t show any other typical flu symptoms. Concerned, they took her to the emergency room where she was treated for a UTI and sent home.

However, the following week brought no relief. Mila’s pain worsened, and she began to feel pain in her lower back, near her kidneys. Her parents returned to the ER, where they thought it might be an infection spreading, but her symptoms continued. After a visit to the pediatrician and several GI tests, a positive Celiac test pointed them toward a possible diagnosis. But even as they researched more about Celiac, they felt that something bigger was happening with Mila. She was rapidly losing weight, her pain was constant, and she seemed to lose interest in everything she once loved.

Finally, after nearly a month of tests and visits to the hospital, Mila returned to the ER one last time. Her parents were determined to get answers. This time, Mila underwent a pelvic ultrasound and CT scan, which revealed a concerning 8.3 cm mass originating from her uterus. Immediately, she was transferred to UCLA Children’s Hospital for a biopsy.

The biopsy confirmed their worst fear: Mila had Stage I embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer.

She started treatment right away, beginning with chemotherapy using the VAC regimen, followed by 20 rounds of proton radiation, and a surgery to remove her tumor. Despite all she has been through, Mila continues to fight with remarkable strength.

Mila is a true hero to her parents, for many reasons. She has faced so many challenges so quickly, yet, despite her shy nature, she has adapted with resilience. Even at such a young age, Mila has shown incredible bravery in facing things she doesn’t fully understand.

Her parents hope that, one day, Mila will look back on this experience not with fear, but with a sense of purpose. They want her to feel inspired to help others who may be facing similar struggles.

To other families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis, Mila’s parents want to share an important message: “You’re not alone,” said her mom, Vanessa. “The unknown is terrifying, but there is support. Always advocate for your child. You know them better than anyone.”

For Mila’s family, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a vital organization that helps raise awareness and funds much-needed research for childhood cancer, which is often underfunded.

Mila herself has a simple, powerful message: “I am super strong!”

And her brother Jackson, full of love and support, shares: “I love my sister and I pray for her.”

This story is shared with the hope that it inspires others and encourages everyone to support the fight against childhood cancer.
