RM Travis Kelce Reveals What Could Prompt Him to Retire

Travis Kelce Says He Thinks About Retirement Often

After the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a 20-13 defeat against the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day, fans were left wondering if this might have been Travis Kelce’s final appearance at Arrowhead Stadium. Given that this could be his last season, it wasn’t the ideal way for the star tight end to end his career at home. However, Kelce might still feel content with the legacy he’s built in the NFL.

Following the game, Kelce was asked if retirement ever crosses his mind. He shared a humorous take on what might lead him to walk away from the game for good.

“Honestly, the only time retirement pops into my head is when I’m driving in and I see how high the Powerball is,” Kelce joked. “I think, ‘Man, if I could just win that, I wouldn’t have to work another day in my life.’”

When asked if the absence of a Powerball win was what kept him playing, Kelce laughed it off but added, “I’m just focused on winning games right now. When it’s time to make that decision, I’ll do it with my family, friends, and the Chiefs organization.”

As for whether this could be his final season, it’s still up in the air. With the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, the idea of Kelce retiring doesn’t seem far-fetched. The team has struggled across both sides of the ball this season, with the offense notably underperforming.

Another worry for the Chiefs is the health of Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL two weeks ago and is expected to miss some time next season.

With so many uncertainties surrounding the team’s future, Kelce’s retirement could be the first of many changes. Only time will tell what the Chiefs will look like next year, and whether Travis Kelce will be a part of that future.
