RM Elon Musk Shares the Story Behind His Twins’ Fantasy- and Science-Inspired Names

Elon Musk has once again drawn widespread attention, not for innovations at Tesla, SpaceX, or his platform X, but for a rare glimpse into his personal life. The moment followed a post shared by the X account Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, which featured a photograph of Musk with his twin children. The image prompted Musk to publicly explain the origins of their names.
In response to the post, Musk identified the children in the photo as his son, Strider Sekhar, and his daughter, Comet Azure. He explained that Strider Sekhar’s name was inspired by Aragorn—also known as Strider—from The Lord of the Rings, as well as the renowned Indian physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. As for Comet Azure, Musk revealed that her name was taken from what he described as the most powerful spell in the popular video game Elden Ring.

Strider Sekhar and Comet Azure are twins born in November 2021 to Musk and Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink. The twins were conceived through IVF and were previously known to the public simply as Strider and Azure before their full names were disclosed.
The middle name “Sekhar” is widely believed to honor Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, the Indian-American astrophysicist who received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his groundbreaking contributions to the understanding of stellar structure and evolution. His work reshaped how scientists understand the life cycles of stars, including their formation and collapse.

Musk’s explanation of Comet Azure’s name further highlights his fondness for science fiction and fantasy, with Elden Ring being a critically acclaimed game celebrated for its deep mythology and dedicated global fan base.
The billionaire entrepreneur is well known for choosing distinctive and symbolic names for his children. With musician Grimes, Musk shares children named X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus. He also has another child with Shivon Zilis named Seldon Lycurgus, a name influenced by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov and the ancient Spartan lawgiver Lycurgus.
