BB.BREAKING NEWS: Carrie Underwood delivers a performance so breathtaking 12 years later, fans still recall the hall falling silent as her voice touched every heart

Carrie Underwood Has Always Shared Her Faith With the World

When American Idol announced it would air a special faith-centered episode on Easter Sunday (April 20), fans immediately knew one thing for sure — Carrie Underwood would deliver a breathtaking, heartfelt performance.
From the very beginning of her career, Underwood has never been shy about expressing her faith, both in song and in her personal life.

Her debut single, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” set the tone for a career deeply rooted in spiritual storytelling. She continued that tradition with the inspirational powerhouse “Something in the Water,” which remains one of the defining songs of her career.

Over the years, Underwood has performed countless faith-based classics such as “Softly and Tenderly” and her iconic rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”
In 2021, she gathered many of these beloved hymns into her gospel album My Savior, which included “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace,” and more.

My Savior debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and the Top Christian Albums chart. It later won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album — a moment of recognition that celebrated both her artistry and her devotion.

That same Easter, Underwood performed all 13 tracks from My Savior at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville during an online concert event that moved viewers around the world.

Beyond her music, Underwood frequently speaks openly about her love for Jesus — whether in interviews, award speeches, social media posts, or moments on television.

During Hollywood Week on the 2025 season of American Idol, she praised contestants Breanna Nix and IAMKNOWN for their performance of Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude.” Holding back tears, she opened up about how challenging it can be to keep faith at the center of a career in entertainment:

“Ladies … I wanna tell you how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you. It is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are gonna tell you not to do that. I wanna tell you that I’m proud of you guys.”

The evening featured performances from the Top 20 contestants, the judges, special guests, and artist-in-residence Jelly Roll.

When it was her turn to perform, Underwood stepped out in a dazzling, shimmering gown — a presence as radiant as her voice.
She chose a song she knows intimately: “How Great Thou Art.”
The hymn has long been one of her most powerful and beloved pieces, and once again, she delivered a performance that brought viewers to tears.

When she finished, host Ryan Seacrest summed up what everyone watching felt:

“I have no words after that!”

The audience erupted with cheers, and the moment instantly became one of the highlights of the Easter special.

“WELL, IN THAT CASE, I’LL DRIVE TO YOUR HOUSE, THROW YOU IN THE CAR, AND TAKE YOU TO THE SET MYSELF.” Burt Reynolds used to tell this story with that half-grin of his — the kind that said he knew he was being a little crazy, but he didn’t care. One afternoon, he called Jerry Reed and asked him to join Smokey and the Bandit. Jerry apologized, said his schedule was packed, and he couldn’t make it. There was this small pause on the phone, the quiet kind where you can almost hear someone thinking. Then Reynolds said, completely calm: “Well, I’ll just drive to your house, throw you in the car, and take you to the set myself.” Jerry laughed. “You’re joking, right?” “No,” Reynolds said. Just like that. And the funny part? Jerry got in the car. No long contracts. No big negotiations. Just two friends, a wild promise, and a role that ended up becoming unforgettable. Snowman was born out of one stubborn moment — and fans still love him for it.
