This little piece of history won’t calm Cowboys fans down, but it’s still pretty cool.

A week after taking a wild 40-37 win over the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys looked like they might be in for another shootout on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, as the two teams were tied 14-14 midway through the second quarter. But those 14 points were all America’s Team could muster at Soldier Field, as the Cowboys’ offense went punt, kneeldown (one play right before halftime), punt, interception, interception, and yet another interception over its final six possessions.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ defense allowed the Bears to tack on 10 more points before the break and another seven on their lone possession of the third quarter, which went for 19 plays and 76 yards, took 9:54 on the clock, and resulted in a touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to D.J. Moore and a Cairo Santos extra point that gave us the 31-14 final score.

Simply put, it was an ugly day for Brian Schottenheimer’s squad, one made worse by the fact that CeeDee Lamb left the game early with an ankle injury, although the four-time Pro Bowler did offer up a positive update afterward. Again, though, it was just a rough afternoon overall in the Windy City.

That said, though, while there weren’t many positives at all for the Cowboys as a whole, there was a little league history made, as Dak Prescott can now say that he’s among the top 50 all-time in regular-season passing yards.

Dak Prescott now ranks 50th on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list

Entering Sunday’s matchup, Prescott ranked 52nd on the all-time list with 31,986 yards. With a 21-yard pass to George Pickens in the second quarter, Dak moved into 51st, surpassing three-time Pro Bowler Mark Brunell, who racked up 32,972 yards during his 17-year career.

And just before exiting the game in favor of Joe Milton in the fourth quarter, Prescott’s 37-yard pass to Kavontae Turpin moved him into 50th, surpassing Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen, who threw for 32,224 yards during his 18-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles and the team now known as the Washington Commanders.

Dak ultimately ended his day with 251 yards, which puts him at 32,237 for his career. And if he can throw for at least 146 yards next Sunday when Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers visit AT&T Stadium, he’ll vault up a couple of more spots on the list, surpassing Kurt Warner (No. 49–32,344) and Cam Newton (No. 48–32,382).

And a few more games down the line, Prescott will be in position to pass Troy Aikman, who currently sits in 46th on the all-time NFL list (Patrick Mahomes passed him on Sunday night) and second on the Cowboys’ franchise list with 32,942 yards.

Yes, Cowboys fans, we’re completely aware that Dak rewriting a little history on Sunday doesn’t take away the sting of such an embarrassing loss.

But we wanted to give you something, and besides Brandon Aubrey making even more history of his own by setting a new franchise record with his 28th made field goal of 50 yards or more, that’s really one of the only good things we could come up with.
