He then missed last week’s historic shutout win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Now head coach Reid, 67, has revealed that the reason Simmons is missing is not injury-related.
Instead, the Chiefs coach has explained that a “personal” issue is behind his previously unexplained absence.
Speculation increased after Chiefs owner Clark Hunt refused to comment on Simmons’ whereabouts.
Reid has shared that Simmons is instead “taking care of family” instead of playing football.
There has been significant expectations placed on the rookie as he experiences his first season in the NFL.
The Chiefs picked him with the 32nd pick of the first round during the 2025 NFL Draft.
He had previously spent two seasons with Ohio State after transferring from San Diego State.
Simmons started each of the Chiefs’ first five games of the 2025 season.
He comes from an impressive sporting family with both his father and uncle being former professional athletes.

His father Nelson, 62, played in the MLB for three seasons with the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles.
Meanwhile, his uncle Chris Fuamatu-Maʻafala, 48, spent seven seasons in the NFL.
He split his career as a fullback between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Reid has explained that the situation is being viewed as a “positive and not a negative” within the Chiefs’ camp.
But the coach has refused to give any further insight into why he remains unavailable.
“He’s just taking care of business,” Reid said. “That’s the main thing right here. When you deal with this, that’s what you do.
“He’s been very good about communicating it. As far as Josh goes I don’t have any updates for you.”
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 30, has sent his wishes to his rookie teammate.
There has been no indication on when Simmons is expected to return.
He has been listed as questionable ahead of Monday’s home game against the Washington Commanders.
