bv. Drake Maye reveals advice Mike Vrabel gave him on breaking records

Breaking records is something Drake Maye would file in the interesting category. However, the most important goal for the second-year quarterback and the New England Patriots is winning football games.

Coach Mike Vrabel isn’t opposed to his quarterback earning individual accolades, but it’s clear he is stressing the team’s success as the priority in the locker room.

“One of the best things that Coach Vrabel was saying this week, playing the Titans last week, was there’s stuff that’s interesting vs. important,” Maye said on breaking records, when appearing on WEEI Afternoons. “I think all of that stuff is interesting and cool to be in those graphics. …But I think what’s important is to try and keep it going. Keep on winning games.”

The North Carolina product is having an outstanding second season.

He currently has 1,744 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions on the year. He broke the Patriots’ franchise completion record on Sunday, surpassing Tom Brady’s 88.5 completion percentage with a 91.3 percent mark.

Maye looks every bit of a franchise quarterback and potential star playmaker for the team moving forward. The individual accolades will come in their own time as long as the Patriots continue to win.
