Fox News host slammed as she thanks Donald Trump for White House renovations

Kayleigh McEnany was slammed for defending Donald Trump’s latest renovations of the White House.

On the Tuesday, Oct. 21 segment of Fox News’ The Five, the six-person panel, which included Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld, discusses the U.S. president’s $250 million ballroom project.

Trump’s construction plans have angered many, including The View’s Sunny Hostin who took a brutal swipe at First Lady Melania Trump over her affiliation to the renovation plans. Despite the backlash, Fox News hosts are standing behind the president’s decision. In fact, the Florida native appears to be one of the project’s biggest supporters based on her latest statement on the news show.

While Jessica Tarlov shared her take, the 37-year-old host cut in to state, “What you’re trying to say Jessica is thank you Trump for saving all of this taxpayer dollars to create a large space where we can hold huge meetings.”

McEnany continued by responding to critics who described the renovation as a “significant change to a historic building.”

She brought up “picture evidence” of past presidents’ construction projects on the White House, starting off with the 26th president.

“1902 Theodore Roosevelt constructing the west wing,” she said. “Doesn’t look too great.”

“1934, FDR added a second floor basement,” she added. “Also doesn’t look too great.”

McEnany also mentioned Harry S. Truman’s foundation change, Richard Nixon’s change of the pool to a press room and Gerard Ford’s building an outdoor swimming pool.

“These look horrendous but the end result was a beautiful White House,” she pointed out. “So, we can say thank you to Donald Trump for following in the footsteps of predecessors.”

Kayleigh McEnany discusses President Trump’s East Wing construction

When the host took to Instagram with the “FACTS on President Trump’s East Wing construction,” fans rushed to the comment section, outraged by her argument.

One questioned, “Is it good to spend money on this when the government is in shutdown, when many American farmers are struggling and as the cost of living continues to increase for ordinary Americans? Does it help ordinary Americans?”

Another chimed in, “For such an iconic building there needs to be stronger recognition and respect to heritage. The current photos of the destruction of the East Wing will outlast the FOX News commentary which is superficial.”

The Society of Architectural Historians has also expressed their “great concerns” of Trump’s plans in a statement released earlier this week.

“While we recognize that the White House is a building with evolving needs, and that it has undergone various exterior and interior modifications since construction began in 1792, the proposed ballroom will be the first major change to its exterior appearance in the last 83 years,” the society stated. “Therefore, such a significant change to a historic building of this import should follow a rigorous and deliberate design and review process.”
