Ryan Reynolds has shared details of a remarkable incident when a Wrexham player rang him in the middle of the night, panicking over a brief scene in the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

The Hollywood A-lister, who co-owns the Championship club with fellow actor Rob Mac, revealed that the 2am call was from a player worried that a moment featured in the hit Disney+ show’s opening credits could affect his personal life. The docuseries, which has just finished its fourth season and is already set for a fifth after winning multiple Emmy Awards, has played a significant role in propelling the Red Dragons to worldwide fame.

However, Reynolds confessed he was taken aback by the late-night call, particularly as he was deeply involved in overnight editing sessions on the Deadpool and Wolverine film at the time. What ensued was a frantic rush as he tried to determine whether it was even feasible to take down and re-edit a series already being streamed to millions of viewers globally.

Reynolds recently recounted the episode while speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit in New York, but did not reveal which player made the call or the content of the footage they had removed.

The Canadian said: “I remember there was an issue on Welcome to Wrexham where a player had some kind of issue. He was freaking out because there was something in the opening credits that would upend his life in some way.

“I’m not getting into it, but he called me so upset and said, ‘Can you please get this thing out of the credits?’ I was like, ‘Man, in Poland, someone is watching this show right now. You don’t just pull something off streaming, edit it and then put it back up.’
