Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, commonly known as brittle bone disease, Kaleb had endured an extraordinary medical journey since infancy. Shriners had shared that he had suffered more than 200 fractures and undergone numerous surgeries, yet he remained calm, funny, and remarkably strong — the kind of child people did not easily forget.
That is exactly why the rumor hit so hard.
When a social media post suddenly claimed that Kaleb had died after spending years in hospice care at home, many people believed it instantly. The post used Kaleb’s image from Shriners and included medical details that sounded convincing. To countless readers, it felt devastatingly real. After all, they had seen him grow up through campaigns, public appearances, and donor appeals. For many, Kaleb was not just a child in a commercial — he was someone they felt they knew.
But the truth was very different.
Shriners confirmed that Kaleb-Wolf De Melo Torres was alive and doing well. A representative for the hospital system explained that the story spreading online had confused Shriners’ Kaleb with another boy who had the same first name.
