RM Kansas City Chiefs’ backup quarterback Chris Oladokun has a unique distinction in NFL history
Kansas City Chiefs’ backup quarterback Chris Oladokun has a unique distinction in NFL history: his first-ever completion in the league went to none other than Travis Kelce, widely regarded as the greatest tight end of all time.
Oladokun reflected on the moment after the game, saying, “You’re out there, and you realize my first-ever completion is to Travis Kelce. I’ve built a strong relationship with him over the past couple of years, but if you’d told me that would be the case, I probably would’ve laughed. But hey, those guys are incredible, and now we move forward with a short week ahead.”

Getting thrown into the action with a sense of urgency, Oladokun’s instinct was to target the best in the business—Kelce, who many still consider the top tight end in the NFL. Oladokun’s appearance on the field came after injuries to both Gardner Minshew and Patrick Mahomes, which added extra pressure to the situation.
Despite the loss, Oladokun showed poise and composure in his performance, making several solid throws that left Chiefs fans hopeful for the upcoming games.

Oladokun added, “After being here for four years, you always wonder when your moment will come. I’ve always approached these years with the mindset that you never know when that moment will happen.”
Throughout his time with the Chiefs, Oladokun has participated in numerous preseason games, always learning from the best—especially from Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl champion. So, when the moment came, he was as ready as he could be, despite the challenging circumstances.
