RM Patrick Mahomes Opts to Celebrate Thanksgiving in Texas Following Close Loss to Cowboys

After the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tight 31-28 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, Patrick Mahomes decided not to fly back to Kansas City. Instead, the star quarterback stayed in Texas with his family, spending the holiday weekend together and sharing warm, festive snapshots online that quickly drew attention.

The Chiefs had entered the holiday riding the momentum of a win over the Indianapolis Colts, hoping to continue their push. But once the loss to Dallas was sealed on Thursday, November 28, Mahomes immediately shifted into family time.

Mahomes Family Thanksgiving in Texas

Rather than returning home after the matchup, Mahomes celebrated Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones in Texas. Brittany Mahomes posted photos of their family gathering, showing off their holiday decorations and the Thanksgiving table setup.

“Getting to spend Thanksgiving with all our family in TX this year is so special,” she wrote on Instagram.

Brittany, 30, wore pinstriped white pants, a matching tee, loafers, and a bomber jacket. Patrick chose a patterned Louis Vuitton button-down paired with tan pants.

Joining them were their three children—Sterling (4), Bronze (3), and baby Golden, born in January—along with Patrick’s parents, Pat Sr. and Randi, and his siblings Jackson, Mia, and Zoe.

Randi Mahomes shared her own carousel of photos from the holiday, while Jackson posted a family picture to Instagram Stories with the caption, “Happy Thanksgiving 🍁.”

Their Thanksgiving table featured copper-toned dishes, mustard-colored goblets, and orange floral arrangements. The family enjoyed the meal only hours after Kansas City dropped to a 6–6 record.

Mahomes Goes Viral for Thanksgiving Ad

Before the game, Mahomes was already making headlines thanks to his Adidas Thanksgiving commercial. The ad showed him sitting at the dinner table and putting ketchup on a turkey leg.

“Thanksgiving is a time to eat,” he said in the spot.

Fans quickly reacted, but long-time Mahomes followers weren’t shocked. He has openly talked about his unusual ketchup habits—at one point even admitting on Barstool Sports that he used to eat ketchup sandwiches as a kid.

He also noted that he still puts ketchup on steak and mac and cheese. “If I’m going to order the expensive steak, I want it the way I want it,” he said.

Mahomes Reflects on the Chiefs’ Loss to Dallas

The Chiefs kept the game competitive, but the Cowboys ultimately pulled away late to secure the three-point win. After the matchup, Mahomes assessed the team’s current state and their expectations moving forward.

“Our ceiling is playing in the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said via Chiefs reporter Charles Goldman. “We’ve got the same guys, we’ve added players, but you’ve got to prove it every single week.”

He emphasized that consistency will determine how far the team goes:

“We can beat anybody, but we’ve shown we can lose to anybody. We have to be more consistent.”

Kansas City now enters the final stretch of the regular season with its postseason hopes still alive but increasingly pressured.

Jahmyr Gibbs Labels Lions–Cowboys Matchup as ‘Playoff-Level’

Following a magical 15-win 2024 season in which they claimed the NFC’s top seed, the Detroit Lions have experienced a notable drop-off in 2025. Their 31-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night sent them to 7–5 and pushed them to third place in the NFC North, behind both the Bears and Packers.

The defeat leaves Detroit outside the current playoff picture, and with only five games remaining, they must gain ground quickly—starting by leapfrogging Green Bay.

Still, the Lions have not lost hope. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs made it clear that Detroit must treat every remaining game as a must-win.

“We need to treat it like playoff games,” Gibbs said, referring to the team’s final stretch, beginning with Thursday’s showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Lions will also get a small advantage as either the Bears or the Packers is guaranteed to lose next week. However, Detroit must stay focused and take it one game at a time if they want a realistic chance at reaching the postseason—and potentially earning their first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

Lions Battle for Playoff Survival

The Cowboys, meanwhile, have kept faint playoff hopes alive by winning three straight, including a 31-28 victory over the Chiefs on Thanksgiving.

This only raises the stakes for Detroit, as Dallas enters the matchup with comparable urgency—and significant momentum—behind a resurgent Dak Prescott.
