RM “There Are No Transgender Children”: J.K. Rowling’s Latest Statement Triggers Renewed Controversy

J.K. Rowling has once again become the center of public debate following new comments she made about transgender issues. The Harry Potter author recently posted on X, stating that transgender children “do not exist” and rejecting the idea that someone can be “born in the wrong body.”

The discussion began after an X user accused Rowling of misusing her public influence, writing that her continued focus on transgender children was “hurtful and unnecessary.” Rowling responded sharply, saying that there are no transgender children and arguing that adults who support such views are, in her words, endangering minors’ well-being in service of what she described as a harmful ideology.

Her remarks quickly sparked strong reactions online. Many critics accused her of spreading damaging narratives about transgender people. One user compared her reasoning to arguments historically used against gay and lesbian individuals. Another sarcastically questioned her authority on the subject, suggesting that fame does not make someone a medical expert.

In reply to criticism about her lack of medical credentials, Rowling responded by saying that being transgender is not considered a medical condition, “or so we’re told.”

Other commenters pushed back, arguing that personal identity should be respected and that people’s gender identities do not harm others. One user urged Rowling to stop judging how others choose to live their lives.

At the same time, Rowling also received support from some users. One comment praised her stance, claiming that expertise is not required to recognize what they described as wrongdoing or exploitation of children.

This incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving Rowling’s views on transgender issues. Earlier, in August, she drew criticism after commenting on Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Rowling questioned Khelif’s eligibility after a swift victory over Italian boxer Angela Carini and accused Olympic officials of allowing what she described as unfair competition, criticizing the International Olympic Committee for its decision.
