RT “THE LAST FEED 🥹 — Ezekiel Elliott Signs One-Day Contract, Then Walks Away Forever… Did the Cowboys Just Close a Legendary Era?”

In an emotional day at The Star — the Dallas Cowboys’ training facility — Ezekiel Elliott officially announced his retirement from professional football at age 30, after signing a symbolic one-day contract to retire as a Cowboy in the silver and blue he always cherished.

Elliott — the legendary running back who ranks third on the franchise’s all-time rushing yards list — received a heartfelt tribute from owner Jerry Jones and the entire organization.

With 8,488 career rushing yards and 83 touchdowns, Zeke was more than statistics — he was the symbol of an era filled with hope and drama for the Cowboys.

“Zeke is part of the DNA of the Dallas Cowboys,” Jerry Jones said in a brief but emotional ceremony. “

From the day he entered the league as the No. 4 overall pick in 2016, leading us to two rushing titles, to the moments he carried the team on his back — Zeke defined what it means to be a true Cowboy. We are forever grateful for what he brought to this city, to our fans, and to the Lone Star.”

Elliott’s journey began brilliantly: Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016, three-time Pro Bowler, and NFL rushing leader in 2016 and 2018. The “Feed Zeke” chants became the team’s rallying cry, with his iconic Salvation Army kettle jump after touchdowns turning into a pop culture phenomenon.

Though his later years were marred by declining performance and injuries, leading to his departure from Dallas in 2023 and stints with the Patriots and Chargers, Elliott always professed his undying love for the Cowboys.

Signing a one-day contract to retire with his original team — a beautiful NFL tradition — was the perfect way to close the chapter.

The ceremony was attended by former teammates like Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and Zack Martin. Prescott shared: “Zeke was the big brother, the leader who guided us. Even off the field, he’ll always be a Cowboy.”

Jerry Jones concluded his moving statement: “Thank you, Zeke, for the unforgettable memories. No. 21 will forever hang high in the hearts of Cowboys Nation. Best wishes on your next chapter — and remember: This will always be your home.”

Cowboys Nation is flooding social media with tributes, reliving Zeke’s highlights and expressing gratitude for the era he defined. From the highs of playoff runs to the iconic moments that made him a fan favorite, Ezekiel Elliott leaves the game as one of the most beloved figures in franchise history.

Thank you for everything, Zeke. Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy. 🤠🏈
